A Baroque House. If you know about them than you know more or less what's in store for you here. LoveDump is the latest release from writer/director SamHel. The film has a runtime of 35 minutes and stars Wolvie Ironbear and Apricot Pitts. And Special Effects by the wonderfully talented James Bell. I own the DVD release that was limited to 300 copies.
The story follows serial killer, cannibal and necrophile Denise Holmes. It's told through a voice over of Detective Jamie Holmes, voiced by SamHel, as he reads journal entries of Denise. It's your basic visual showcase though. You watch these movies for what's happening onscreen more so than the actual story.
Now i went into this movie blind. I've never seen anything SamHel has released prior to this. So i must say HOLYFUCKINGWAITWHAT?!?! Ya. While more sexually driven films aren't my taste at all. I must say that for what this movie is, it's well done. It makes you uncomfortable. You're not sure how to feel most of the time. The gore is fantastic. That's what i wanted. Plenty of gore and this delivers. Now if you are unaware of A Baroque House you're probably unaware of the porn aspects of their films. This one is no different. I think that's what puts me off with this one. It's just not my cup o' tea as they say somewhere. Now that is not to say this is a bad movie. It's not. It's really cool and dark and kinda sad. I just don't get into that particular part of the scene. I'm more of a straight up gore guy. And if you are too than you will definitely like the efx in this. Not shit you see everyday even when you're into this scene. Imaginative gore is always a huge plus in my book.
The acting was good. Nothing goofy to take you out of the mood. Not too much of a coherent story but i get the feeling there wasn't meant to be one.
I went in blind as i said. Not sure really what to expect. Now while i won't revisit this anytime soon i will definitely support SamHel. He is a good visionary for his particular nitche. He makes the stuff He wants to make and that is admirable. He most certainly is a competent filmmaker and someone to keep an eye on in the future.
